Short break

I’m taking a short break from the Internet.  Not sure today how long but I doubt if it’ll be more than a month.  Personal reasons.

Meantime, keep well and play safe.

The days won’t be complete until your return to the internet. However, I salute your common sense and your knowing when a break is needed.

  9. Mary In Michigan

Hope you will be enjoying your break, John! We’ll all be here when you get back.

  10. Take care, John. Actually taking the break that you know you need can be a huge step. Congratulations.

  12. OH GOSH! John, be well :)

  13. I’m taking a media break this June, once school’s out for the summer. One month of no tv, computers, movies, radio, etc. I’ve done it several times in my life, and it’s always a good thing. My best to you, John. I’ll miss hearing about your corner of the world. See you back here soon!

  14. We’ll miss you. I’m just hoping it’s because you’ve got better things to do and not because you’re being bothered online again. Take care.

  15. Just like all the others, I am here waiting for your return and meanwhile, send you my best !

  16. Will miss your posts. If there are any “things” of any kind causing you to take a break, I hope all are soon well solved. If it’s simply a whim – well – good on ya!!

  17. I also hope you are well and just in need of a rest from it all. See you when you get here again.

  18. Had to come and see why I wasn’t receiving any notifications from you. Now I know. Have your break but come back to us!

  19. Breaks are good for the soul. I wish you all good and peace dear poet.

  20. …and don’t forget, we hope to know the personal reasons all worked out well.

  21. Mary Lee McClure

I just want you to know that this hiatus will be painful, John, but worth while if you are able to restore yourself, and get your health under control again. There will be a large gap in my day, but I’ll be brave and know it’s all in a good cause. Take care of yourself. You are loved! And by many.

  22. I’m getting withdrawal symptoms……..I keep coming back and re-reading the comments!

  23. Neva Williams

Me too. I don’t know just what I think is going to change, but I keep checking back here…

  24. We’ll just have to talk to each other. How is everyone?

  25. Kate & Jim

Me too. I’ve checked everyday just to see what you all are saying! lol.

  26. Kayper in Dallas

LOL! I’ve been reading us, too. @Maureen: I’m doing well. It’s cold again here in Dallas. How are you? ;)

  27. I am well Kayper in Dallas. But it’s raining here on the south coast of England. The Daffodils are out and tulips are starting to appear .I guess spring is just around the corner. The temperature goes up and down like a yoyo at the minute. How is everyone else?Over to you Kate and Jim?

  28. Neva Williams

Thanks for asking, Maureen. I’m fine. I live in the Arizona desert and we’ve already had a day that was 85°. We’ve had a rainy winter, which we needed. I’m glad to hear that you and Kayper are doing well.

Do you suppose that as we all are talking, John or Dolly will hear a wee bit of a buzz coming from his computer? (smiling)

I hope that he is okay. He certainly is missed, isn’t he?

  29. Thanks Maureen, I’m fine too. And here on the continent spring has finally sprung. + 20° C today! A bit much, but yet lovely. It would be even nicer though if we could share all this with you John. John, you must feel this in your bones, that we all can’t stop thinking of you and missing you! :-)

Hello, everyone. I’m a constant reader of this blog, but am guilty of commenting only rarely. I vow to change that when the old grey poet returns.

This comment comes from Southern California where the sun is hidden today by a vague overcast.

  31. I finally checked in to see what was happening. Now I’m waiting for John to get “back”. Oh, and it’s 80 degrees F here in Northern California.

  32. Oh for warmer weather……sigh.I certainly miss his doings.Perhaps John will come back with some amazing poems? This comments and responses list will be huge!lol.

  33. Mary Lee McClure

J8st checked in to find you still not back, John. That’s okay. Take what you need and enjoy your break, but itll sure be wonderful when you do come back. Not hinting or anything, but —

  34. It’s a health thing. Just read between the lines of the comments of Mary Lee McClure . Get back well John. And soon.

  35. John’d better watch himself, or he’ll find he needs to set up a forum for us all to chat in, once we’ve started using the comments threads to communicate with one another!

  36. What a good idea Jas ! We’d all love that a good chat amongst ourselves. What could we have started! I miss John and Dolly and Graham. You miss him when he’s not blogging ,don’t you? There is a cold wind coming off the sea today. Our island could do with some hot sun.

  37. Kate & Jim

Sorry I didn’t get back right away…it was a lovely weekend here (70′s F) and we couldn’t sit inside and look out at it, we had to be out and having that blessed sun on our skin! (of course, today, it’s pouring).

It’s nice to see everyone here! Thanks Maureen, for thinking of this! I see Kayper and Jane Humphrey and Betty Lou! Jas and John G., who we don’t see very often! It’s good to know you all are still there!

If you’re checking in John. Jim and I send you our best! Love to you and Graham!

  38. Kayper in Dallas

What lovely people and lovely cats we have here. :)

  39. It takes one to know one Kayper in Dallas!

  40. I can’t help worrying about Dolly.

  41. Neva Williams

Alison, are you wondering if this break that John is taking is about Dolly? I hope not.

  42. Glad I’m not the only worrier around…

  43. Oh dear. Please don’t worry ’bout us. Dolly is fine, and working at snoozing for Britain. Graham is well, and working… Me, I’m fine, too, no health problems, feeling good, just not in the mood for writing yet. I’ll be back before the end of the month! :D

  44. Phew! Well that’s alright then.

  45. Drats I forgot to put Maureen in the box again! That was me who was anonymous.

  46. Ah John, you know what your loyal, but ever worrying readers need… Thanks a lot! So just enjoy your time away from the internet as long as you want…, but not too long! :-)

  47. Thank you for pandering to us worrywarts John :)

  48. Hmm is it the end of the month yet *sigh* ?
    You’re missed :(

  49. Indeed I miss you, John–and thank you so much for quieting our worries. Here in coastal Massachusetts the weather is like a roller-coaster ride: winter ended with warm sun and shirtsleeve weather, then three days of grim grey rain and now cold bright sun. Crocus are flowering, perennials are nosing up and I have a big bouquet of Irish daffodils on my table. I do indeed enjoy you all–it’s an oddly-formed little community, ennit? Cheers and love to all.

  50. Missing you John.

  51. While researching narrowboats a few years ago, I somehow stumbled upon your site. What a happy stumble it was! I peek in from time to time to catch up on your news, but this is my first posting. Thank you for telling us that all is well and that you’ll be back soon! You touch more people than you might realize.
    Greetings from south Florida.

  52. Kate & Jim

Oh goody, now I can sleep well tonight! ;)

Thanks John, for checking in. As you can see we’ve all been chatting along nicely though.

  53. Thank you John for easing our minds, mine included.

To Margery above, I’ve just looked at your beautiful paintings and love them. Are they for sale? I should look closer. We live in Salem, MA, just a stone’s throw from you. Love your work!

  54. Neva Williams

Thanks, John … good to know you are all alright. Of course, take the time you need, as you can tell, we will all be here.

  55. We should have a little map to see how far John’s fame is spread!

  56. I’m a reader from south Florida. Been keeping up with John since ’98. I’m having a cup of tea now and enjoying the chit chat.

It was actually a hot day today. And the azaela bushes are in full bloom everywhere I went. Except I noticed today that on my street not one of us own an azaela bush! I must put some in my own yard, but it will be too late to enjoy the blooming this Easter.

Hope the rest of you lot get to puttering outside when the weather allows. Good for the spirit.

  57. Neva Williams

My Freesia, Verbena and French Lavender are blooming, and what a cheery sight that is. I need to replant some of my containers.

  58. My containers look awful and my hanging baskets all need doing. It’s just too cold at the minute. We have a lovely sunny day here but the wind is coming off the sea and is freezing!I think the snow we had earlier this year has killed off a lot of my plants.I think there will be a lot of gaps this spring.I won a potted azelia in a raffle the other day.Cheered me up no end.

  59. Vicki how did you start researching narrowboats and end up at the OGP?

  60. Maureen, it was just a fluke that I even found OGP. I’d spent a week on a narrowboat in the spring of 2001. When I tried explaining to friends at home what a narrowboat was like, I began poking around the internet. As often happens, I found other related (or not so related) sites that led me, quite willingly, astray. I’m not quite sure how I got here but am happy to be here!
