By the time we’d finished our lunch in Sainsbury’s Graham had relaxed and settled in to enjoying a mini-break from his work.
We were laughing and joshing over cold coffee (Graham) and cold black tea (me).
“Let’s not bother with the shopping or anything,” I said. “Let’s just sit here, get more coffee, and enjoy the afternoon.”
“That sounds awful nice.”
“Well?”
“Nah. Stuff to do. Come on, chicken, let’s get going.”
It would have been fun, though.
Sounds the same as me and Jim, last week, for a refresh at a sandwich/lunch place. I just wanted to sit with the sun on my back, read a book and people watch while finishing my tea. But…we had errands to run and things to do.
Nice you got to sit down and relax for a moment though!
Graham has more drive and energy than I’ve ever had. I’d have been pushed clean over by your persuasive argument!
Well now tell Graham I said not to lose those moments before he gets to old to enjoy them.
Ah, but some is usually better than none at all. Glad you had a little relaxing time, no matter how brief.
Ah, but why not take some time to enjoy the fruits of one’s labors, rather than pushing on only to finish more quickly in order to sit back and start wondering now what can we do with THIS day?
And, bty, wher’e the magisterial matron of the household and how is SHE faring in the midst of all of this? You haven’t even mentioned the beautiful Mme. Dolly for quite too long, John. Or am I being more forgetful than usual?
Yes, I remember one day a few months ago when Nancy and I were out dashing about and we stopped in a coffee shop intending to get coffee to take with us and instead we decided to take a break and bought coffee and pastry and found two comfortable chairs by a window and opened up books and sat there sipping coffee and reading our books — it was like a mini vacation.
We did that yesterday. Nothing weighty here except us.
What is poor Graham going to do when there are no more home-improvement projects to do?
