Slippery going

I’m getting bored with the ice now.  There’s a slippery slidey spot at the top of the road, in the shade of two houses, which has presented a challenge since the first drop of snow fell. Each time I traverse it it’s a challenge to the little silver Ford, which is truly too light to handle polished ice.  It does it though, with a bit of care from a gentle driver.  More than I can manage on foot, though.  I tried it the first day, nearly came a cropper, and have cowered indoors since, waiting for the temperature to rise.  I’m a heavy man, and it doesn’t do to seek out slippery slidey spots on foot without good cause.

I thought that was the worst place round these parts until today when we motored over to the Screwfix outlet in Llansamlet.  Their first day open since the holidays and the car park was a great challenge.  The only way to be safe on surfaces like that is to wear spiked chains on your boots.  I managed it, and Graham did, too, but it was not fun, and sliding into my driving seat on the way out was the point where I declared my boredom with the whole chilly mess.

Ah well, give it another week I reckon, and things’ll get milder.  Meantime, I’ll take my exercise indoors.

The justification for the Screwfix trip was to fetch an Ethernet network kit so that Graham may hard-wire his computer into the router.  I fear that the main cause of his computer problems is the old box itself.  I’ve offered to buy him a replacement but he’ll not hear of it.
