We forgot to buy croissants. We forgot to buy orange juice. So there was no Buck’s Fizz for breakfast today. Nothing daunted we just had fizzy chardonnay and the opening of presents.
I had a lovely set:
- A new mobile phone with a 2mb digital camera
- A copy of the Simon’s Cat book [yay!]
- A DVD of the original Baghdad Cafe movie
- A DVD of the BBC pilot of The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency
- Three porcelain Mickey Mouse miniatures for my small but growing Disney collection
- An enamel Mickey Mouse lapel badge for the same
Not sure what it all says about me but each item hit a particular delight spot in my psyche.

A stunning bird stained glass window, a new mini video recorder, Susan Boyle’s latest CD..ahhhh.
I wish the three of you and Very Merry Christmas, your friendship is a special blessing !

DVDs of Season 1 of True Blood and Friday Night Lights, two lovely sweaters, a great pair of boots, the latest Stephen King tome, and the latest album by The Swell Season — a swell haul!
Merry Christmas! I got a giant iPod. 160 gig. It can hold 40,000 songs. And a 24″ flat-screen monitor. And some cute, kitty-shaped earrings from my daughter. Not a bad haul.
And it SNOWED here! Dallas hasn’t had a white Christmas in over 80 years!
And PS. I’m about to hit up Amazon for that Simon’s Cat book.
Wish I had gotten the Simon’s Cat. I didn’t. But, I got a gas log (to be installed later this week) with phony burning embers – but beautiful.
Also got a Xmas Eve with wonderful extended family and Xmas day with husband and daughter.
Life is good.
Best of everything in 2010 to you and Graham. (and Dolly, of course).
Best thing I got, kids that got along and the laughs that followed when they discovered the flatware at their place setting was plastic, colored like real flatware.
I figured I would hand them the real thing when they found out, but they had started to eat with them. lol
Susan Boyle’s CD, too (love it, especially “The End of the World” – I used to swoon to that back in the ’60′s), two super-duper flashlights, 2 Yorkshire calendars, a CD of Charlie Parker and one of Enya, as well, some lovely white casserole dishes, and a book about beach huts from our friend from Yorkshire. The best present was that mo mother-in-law, who broke her hip on Monday (at 87) stood up today in rehab and has begun her recovery already.
The new Barbra Streisand CD (I already bought myself Susan Boyle’s – couldn’t wait!), three cotton turtleneck shirts, a down vest, an antique statue of Our Lady of Fatima, and a lovely antique desk picture of St. Theresa in the most gorgeous original frame (I collect religious artifacts). Also some Lindor chocolates, my favorite red wine, smoked salmon, and a stocking full of assorted toiletry items. A really wonderful Christmas!
Here’s wishing the three of you the best ever, as well as a very Happy New Year. By the way – the house looks fabulous!
I was given what I asked for: A family dinner with those I love, and a generous contribution to the SPCA on my behalf.
I was also given gifts of wine, snuggly PJs, a gift certificate, a doggie ornament, lots of chocolate candy, and a sweet cat calendar.
I hope you enjoy the Ladies’ Detective Agency as much as I did. I watched the first two DVDs. I hope our library gets more in the series.
Drats!John I thought there was a book I’d missed out on.x
Jammies, slippers, “I can haz cheezeburger” book, and a nice donation to “Best Friends Animal Sanctuary” was made in my name!
Oh, and a Merry Christmas to the two of you and Dolly the Wonder Cat!
A pair of slippers with memory foam from the children who have no clue what to get their mother. (On a par with the family Christmas joke of “Oh boy! Socks!”) I’m hoping the other child does better — I get that set of gifts next weekend when I go down for a visit.
I got a GPS. (I guess now I’ll be able to find my way around.)
Oh, here we got a cruise out into the pacific…and we enjoyed every second of it, thank you.
Ah, let’s see…maple “surple” (as my kids used to call it) packed in a pair of wool socks, maple candy, 6 books, candy, fancy teas, warm gloves, a real ‘organic catnip’ mouse for the kitties and a marvelous Moroccan dinner with 2 dear friends. Truly a wonderful Christmas.
I’m so glad you had a delightful celebration with your dear ones, John!
Hugs and Happy New Year from Asia (where we are gearing up for The Year of The Tiger next Feb.)
