Curry, sausages, and Geminids

Another lovely sunny day, with three more forecast.  Not that it was mild. An unwary step around a corner was only too liable to yield a sharp draught sneak in around a less than carefully fastened coat and cause a shudder of remembrance.  This is winter.  A nice bright winter day but winter nevertheless.

Graham wanted a trip to the DIY store again, to fetch a few lengths of timber this time.  So my daily walk today was twice round the massive Wickes warehouse and across the car park and back.

Leg feeling much better but the foot is still so swollen that I can’t put my shoe on without help. Mustn’t complain, though.  If the pain were as bad as the offending limb looks I’d be in constant agony.

I have a feeling that Graham is going to fancy chipolata sausages, gently grilled, with mashed potatoes and some routine vegetable for his dinner.  I wonder if he’d let me do them as currywurst?  I think I’d enjoy a dish of currywurst all steaming hot outside at about 20:00 tonight, watching out for meteor showers in the cold and clear sky.  I shall wrap up well, of course, like a good Berliner.

    Hold on, John, I’ll be there to join you for that curry, which is a love of mine any time at all! And,, extra treat, I’d love to see tonight’s meteor shower with you and Graham, since we’re heavily over cast here mid USA, alas! How devious can one get, I wonder? But how to get there in time–

    My SNL is from Germany and he makes currywurst when none can think of anything else to eat. We all like it. He uses less curry for us.

    Graham is just now recovering and his appetite is bound to be delicate and not ready for spicy.

    The Wikopedia article makes it sound quite tasty. I find numerous recipes via google and don’t know which would be the best to try first. Have you got a favorite recipe for currywurst that you would share with us?

    Not really a recipe, Dave. It’s certainly best with a solid German sausage but that requires special shopping so I almost always end up with good quality British pork chipolatas, a jar of cheap supermarket curry sauce and my stock-cupboard pot of ‘curry powder’. Cook the sausages as normal, trying to get rid of as much surplus fat as possible. Slice half-way through into one-inch segments and place on long individual dishes. Meanwhile, heat the curry sauce through on the stove or in a microwave, having added extra stock-cupboard spices to taste (I always add turmeric). Pour the sauce over the sizzling hot sausages, dust with a little ‘curry powder’, and serve with potatoes cooked the way you fancy and a glass of good German beer. Good appetite!
