Now the days really are rattling along and I’m getting a sense of speed back in my life. If I were a railway train I’d be picking up my skirts Disney-style and whistling along the tracks and around the curves on only one set of wheels. Whoo-hoo!
Mustn’t get carried away, though. I still have a house to be vacuumed and dusted a couple more times, and two sets of bathroom porcelain to be scrubbed and shined, and kitchen work surfaces to be kept clean and sweet. And then, to hell with it.
This time next week we’ll be settled into a new routine and Graham will be formulating a plan of work to keep him happy over the winter.
A year ago today we were one day away from exchanging contracts, and a fortnight away from moving house. Graham’s winter work plan was delayed by a fairly extensive snagging project on what turned out to be a sadly neglected house, and put on hold when he decided to do the summer season in Somerset. So today we’re about six months behind where we wanted to be. I suspect that Graham is going to want to make up for lost time over the coming winter. Me, I’m happy to take things as they come, and content to feel that the establishment will shortly be back under one roof once more.
And, after all, there are only 85 shopping days before Christmas. And I love Christmas.
