Butterflies in my mind

Another lovely sunny day yesterday, and it looks set to repeat today.  Dolly and I dip into the sunshine repeatedly from first light to last, with no more than a nap break in the early afternoon while the sun shifts around my neighbour’s house, leaving the catio in shade.

It’s nice to think that this fine weather will last but, sadly, it look as if things will get wet again over the weekend and into the first couple of days next week.  I’m hoping for a good day next Wednesday.

Other than that, and a bit of in-depth cleaning in the kitchen and bathrooms, I’ve not done a lot other than eating and sitting around gazing into the sky and listening to the trees.

After a few days when I’ve been eating very little, yesterday turned into a feast day.  It wasn’t planned that way but, when I discovered a handful of tomatoes in the fridge, beginning to get soft, I did a fry-up brunch–all those tomatoes, fried bread and two eggs–which I enjoyed greatly.  A trip to Sainsbury’s in the afternoon led me further into evil ways and, in the evening, I sat down to a heaped plate of boef bourginon, mashed potato and fresh garden peas.  I got my portion control wrong, though, and heaped the plate too high, leaving me with a very full tummy and an irresistible urge to sleep.

I shall attempt to balance my gluttony with a few days of vegetarian meals from today.

No sign of rats, but my window-watching was rewarded by an invasion of butterflies.  I’d rather thought that this year would be too wet for much in the way of butterflies but they seem to be making up for lost time.  I’m told that the forest-sided hill behind the house is like a scene from a Disney cartoon, butterflies of all kinds, including some rare ones, feasting on the wild shrubs and flowers.  I’d love to see that but there’s no road access and I can’t manage more than 75 to 100 yards on foot, less when it’s uphill.

Hey ho.  I can conjure it up in my mind’s eye and I shall have to make do with that.
