A good prod

The weather matched my mood today.  Too lazy to clear the sky and let the sun come through.  Too miserable to stop raining.  Too closed in and secret to let the eye see anything but mist and cloud–if those hills have tops then they’ve been hiding themselves.

Not just that but it was wet and clammy and rather cold down here in the valley.

So I sighed, snuggled up with Dolly, and spent the day being idle.  Might be better tomorrow but the week is running out of time now and there are only three days remaining before the big return.  I need to be very honest with myself and work out a schedule of activity I have a decent chance of following.

After yesterday’s episode over my hasty shopping expedition I was told I need to learn to pace myself better.  Me, I think prodding rather than pacing is what I need.

  1. Sometimes in advanced “maturity” plodding is faster than pacing and stopping to rest.

  2. Want me to send over one of the cattle prods from the farmyard?

Not that they help *me* any. I have very little self-discipline. One of my shortcomings. Or endearing qualities. Not sure.

  3. :-) Well I can use both prodding and pacing. :-)

  4. It’s rather reassuring when one’s friends know exactly what one means even when one is speaking in Fluent Rubbish! :D

Yes, yes, you all are quite right….!!! :-)

  6. Her name escapes me now, but a writer whose topic was housekeeping once said that whenever she felt the need for exercise, she had a good, brisk sit. The older I get, the more I understand her comment.

Novie – could it be ‘Hints fromHeloise’, you were thinking of? She was always good for her humor as well as advice.

A good, brisk sit – There ya go, John! lol

Your pattern of being alone without Graham seems to mirror mine being alone without Warren. I have many projects to do…..maybe start a few……but not all. And then just read. or listen to music. or TV. And then realize that half of myself is gone.

  9. Growing older, I found that I have to seek a ladies’ room more frequently, and at times rather… ahem… hastily. That keeps me from having longer walks, since the paths are not really dotted with accommodations to powder one’s nose. On the other hand I HAVE to walk, or just looking at food will make me gain weight.

In despair I bought a running belt, a very simple device, since I use it for walking and won’t ever jog.
Gives me some exercise, when I need to powder my nose I simply step off, do what needs to be done, and step on again. Also, I find it soothing, and can either contemplate nature through the (open) window or watch televison – much the same what I do when I’m knitting.

Could that be solution for you? You could stop when tired and wouldn’t have to take a taxi back home, telephone and other appliances are always near, and you’ll never get soaking wet…. ;-)
