To Neath this morning, taking Graham to the rail station to pick up a ticket in advance of his week’s absence starting tomorrow.
It rained. It rained all the way there, it rained while we were there, and it rained all the way back. Most uncomfortable.
“I sometimes think that Neath is trying to tell me something,” I said, stripping off my damp clothes the minute we got home.
“You may be right.”
“Nothing personal, you understand.”
“No, I know. It’s something about rain and parades, like as not.”
“Dunno about that. Rain and poets, perhaps. Never the twain shall meet.”
“What’s a twain?”
“Not sure, really. Something to do with mud, rivers, and lots of water. And a long bit of string with a weight on the end.”
“You have a really peculiar head, you do.”
“I know. Never quite sure if it’s the rain or the poems. The result is strange, anyway.”
The conversations of those who have shared many years together are fascinating. Having read your journal from the earliest archives, I can generally follow it, but I often wonder if the body language I imagine from the photos of the two of you has anything to do with reality.
Now you got me to wondering how Encarta would define twain. ‘two’. Yup that’s all. lol
Yeah, but ‘by the mark, twain? Oh, THAT guy.
Very clever stuff today, OGP, VERY!
And forget that ‘never the twain’ of Kipling’s too, please.
Twelve feet.
Did I miss something???
Or will it remain a mystery, where Graham is going for a week…(tootling off to Graham’s, to see if he’s mentioned anything).
Haiku – Rain and poets
Dry days without rain.
Does a stanza come to mind?
Poems need wet roads.
Twains go twoot, twoot!!
We missed Graham’s travels, you know.
Twain…….a boating term. 12 feet…..see above.
Now I have to go look it up.
It’s a standard software protocol, and it also means Technology Without An Interesting Name. Two, Mark Twain, and gosh there are a lot of definitions. I think I’ll quit when I am ahead.
Twain is a boating term?
One I’ve never heard of.
I am sure my assistant Dr. Google will enlighten me.
Love you twain and your conversations, complete with multiple literary allusions.
