It’s been a sitting indoors, keeping quiet, playing with the computer, ready at all times to obey the “Tea, please!” command kind of day, with the devil looking over my shoulder, searching for idle hands.
Somewhere late in the morning I had a bit of a brainwave. I spend a lot of time ‘playing with the computer’–read ‘surfing’ or ‘researching’ if it pleases you better. Could be that by reintroducing the advertisements feature (AdSense) I can turn my idle thoughts and a few references to advantage with minimum impact on the content. Can’t do that here on WordPress–it’s against the rules–but Blogger permits it, and indeed, makes it easy. Might have something to do with both Blogger and AdSense being children of Google, of course, but that’d be a churlish way to think.
So, while I’m noodling at the thought, and wondering about it, I’ve created a shadow Blogger journal. Click here to see it.
I’m making no promises or threats. I’m well aware that some folks loathe advertising on the Internet, though I must observe that it’s darned close to impossible to avoid it. I value my readership, and all my friends, very highly, and shall not lightly desert a single one of them. It may be that the best way forward is to run the two versions in parallel, so far as content is concerned.
We’ll see. I have a feeling that the tone and nature of my ‘content’ is changing as I get older. I seem to need some kind of stimulus to keep my interest alive and this might, just might be one way to contribute to it.
Our new copy of Stargate Atlantis series 1-5 arrived this morning. I did as directed and sampled a programme at random and was impressed with the quality. The packaging is odd, however, and the provenance of the copy a little shady. We will investigate carefully, and quietly, of course, but I think my famous “we’ll see” might well apply here.
Oh. Oh. The “Tea, please” command has just been issued. I’d better get going. Time to start our dinner anyway. Fish pie tonight. Yummity. Something really, really reassuring about fish pie. The guy in the video might be something of a jerk, but his recipe and method (and foul language) are very close to my own.
Pingback: Fish pie
I think I’ll have to try the fish pie for my family. It sounds great.
As for the ads, I dislike all ads, in any form, but they are a necessary evil. I figure if I want to continue to read something for free, clicking on a few ads here and there won’t hurt.
The Firefox ad blocking software add-on kept me from seeing any on the Blogger site. I’ll have to look at it with another browser.
I’m sure it’s delicious, but “fish pie” SOUNDS absolutely gross, to me.
Is it fish in a pastry shell? Or …?
Ads do not bother me. I learned long ago to ignore the irrelevant.
Me again.
I went to the blogspot site but it doesn’t allow me to comment. It asks me to choose a profile, but then doesn’t allow me to choose one. So here’s my comment:
I’m all over your ads, buddy. These aren’t in-your-eyes irritating and hey, I would like few things better, myself, than to blog and be paid for it. Even a little bit.
- Kate
I would love to try the fish pie!
As for ads, I ignore them at all cost. Do they shorten your posts? If not, no matter.
Will it help with ad income if we , or some of us, read from Blogger, John? If so I’ll change my Favourites link.
Blogger commenting methods are a bit of a pain in the bum, whichever setting is chosen , I’m on Blogger myself (sans ads) but usually curse a bit when commenting on other Blogger blogs. Still a little cursing is good for the soul and is well worthwhile to read you!
I confess I don’t understand why Blogger has made such a meal of comments but I do soldier on best I can. That thing about no sweating over… ?

Somehow I don’t get it. Like Wendy I’m using Firefox and don’t see any ads anyway, neither on this blog nor on the shadow blog.
Weeeeeell… I did find the ads after a bit of closer looking, usually I’m a master in the art of ignoring ads. But with blogspot like Kate I have the problem of “choose a profile, but I won’t give you one anyhow”. I hate it, when a blogplace (ANY blogspace!) wants to force one to become a member of something. But no matter – where you go, I’ll follow. I am far too fond of reading your journal (or Graham’s *hinthint*) to let go of you, simply because I can’t make a comment.
Isn’t spring just BEAUTIFUL? We had sunshine for over a week now and nary a drop of rain!
Hugs from Hamburg,

Turn on the ads if you want, John, but you won’t earn any clicks from me. I use Firefox Adblock, and most known ad-serving sites are also black-holed at my DNS server.
Nothing personal.
That is definitely an amateur video, but it’s a great recipe! Made me hungry just watching him put it together.
I shan’t worry about the blogger thing. I have a Google/Blogger ID, from my gmail account, which I use on Gary’s site. It’s fussy when you first set it up, but then comes in handy lots of places.
So … if you’ll kindly send the link to the Blogger journal when you mail out your notifies, I’ll be happy to read over there and click on some ads while I’m at it. That’s only because I love you.
John, there’s nothing wrong with profiting a bit from plugging someone’s wares.
It wouldn’t bother me one bit if you provided links to products that you use or recommend. In fact, I’d love a link to a good recipe book that covers traditional English cooking .
A link to the place you purchased your Stargate dvd’s would be great too. Sign up for an Amazon and eBay affiliate account and I certainly wouldn’t have any problem purchasing through your links.
I bought the complete set of Stargate SG-1 (from Ebay of course) and the packaging looks a bit dodgy on that too, although the disks play well enough. It keeps us out of trouble on a dark evening!
