You have to love a pill that gives you a sudden burst of energy and good feeling after a long illness and my first dose of prednisolone this morning worked like a magic bullet. I asked for and obtained a 5-day course to clear out the last of the congestion and give my system a kick in the pants. Works for me.
So our first trip out was perhaps artificially enhanced by steroid lift. No matter, I feel much better for a bit of sea air and sunshine and for a glimpse of open skies. You can get to miss open skies when you live in a Welsh valley.
Porthcawl is a seaside resort on the coast, heading towards Cardiff. It’s a Victorian town, as so many are, and has seen better days. At least, the Coney Beach funfair site has seen better days.
Here are some of the pictures we took (click on the thumbnails to enlarge):
The funfair was closed of course. Doesn’t open until Easter. So we skirted around the edge of it, first in search of a loo, then looking for refreshments. We found the first but our search for the latter was less than successful. We’d have done better this time of the year to explore the ‘town centre’. Next time.
Even so, we got our dose of fresh air, I walked perhaps three miles in stages, and both of us feel better for it. I suspect we’ll be going back later in the season when the place will have come alive but for today the feeling of sad emptiness suited the mood perfectly.

OHO! I just hadn’t read beyond the pix. That’ll teach me. Definitely OFF time there.
Now then you saved me a bench spot I see.
Yes, sometimes places like that are far nicer and much more what you want and need at that particular moment. I’m glad for you, John and Graham
You look mightily pleased in that bench shot, John. That makes me feel good. As for the funfair, I think I enjoy that sort of thing when it’s empty, rather than when it’s teeming with touristos.
Great picture of you, John. Heheh, Dee, and with touristas and their touristitos and -itas, too.
Do I catch a hint of “halcyon days” in that title? The beach has a calm befitting such an adjective.
there you are!
Be sure to put your feet up. Prednisone often (but not always) leads to puffy ankles.
I just finished a course of it and feel ever so much better.
Glad you’ve got something to help, and your correct, Prednisone makes you feel so much better….though I start looking like a blow fish after a week of it.
You looked like you could have enjoyed a Walls 99 ice cream complete with a flake
So glad you are feeling better. Chronic breathing/coughing troubles are no fun at all — bee there myself at times past. Interestingly (at least to me) our cat receives tiny doses of prednisolone to help her with a stomach malady. You aren’t nipping Dolly’s meds, are you? Best wishes! — JG
