Constantly

It’s cold. Minus 10°C out there, so I’m told.  I’m under strict instructions to stay indoors and, having seen Graham come back in all red and white patches, and huffing like a steam engine after only 15 minutes taking delivery of our new loft insulation, I’m not inclined to argue.

Thankfully, our heating system and the warmer masonry structure of the house are working together to keep the place cosy and warm.  The new insulation will add to that by requiring the gas boiler to turn on less and less frequently.  Like me, the house is taking a turn back to normal health.

I seem to have shaken off the ‘flu, at last.  It’s taken a full month, and it’s left me pale, wan, and worn-out.  Graham’s in much the same state.

“Next time I go out I think I ought to invest in a very large bottle of Metatone,” I said.

“That does seem a good idea.”

So, soon as I can make it, I shall pop over to Neath and grab a bottle.  It’s a great tonic for post-’flu or cold malaise, boosting energy levels and cleaning out the gunk.  Taken alongside a high fruit and vegetable diet, you can’t go wrong or, if you do, you’re fully entitled to call on professional help.

Me, I’m buzzing.  A little bored being stuck indoors on these lovely sunny days and, if it goes on much longer, I shall wrap myself in multiple layers of insulative clothing and go for a little walk regardless, wearing my balaclava helmet over my mouth and nose and delighting in the breathy icicles so produced.

“Hey, look at me!” I cried the last time I did that. “I’ve got stalactites!”

“You’re a bleedin’ looney.”

“Well, yes.  I do try.  Constantly.”

  1. Must admit John,I have never heard of Metatone Tonic. What does it taste like?

  2. And thank you, very much, for sharing that looniness with us! I got a big laugh from it and in these ‘greige’ days we’ve got going for us here, it provided a delightful sparkle, although it seems like the sun has vanished for an unspecified period of time.
Oh, and yay! I get ‘firsty’ bragging right for today!

  3. Better than stalag-mites, John. :-)
Now Graham will be thinking I’m a looney, too.

  4. Well, another lesson on why one should never allow a swelled head to show! ;-)
Perhaps I can be like Alice and celebrate a happy UN-first?

  5. There’s a lot to be said for looniness!

  6. Couple of years ago I purchased 2 of those head gear wraps. We keep them in the cars in case of an emergency in the bad weather, along with a few other emergency items.

Glad the house is warming up. And the insulation should be such a saver.

*Mary Lee – I laughed right out loud. Woke the dogs. lol

  7. Metatone! Tastes like… all metallic, tongue curlingly metallic.

  8. We have warmed some but Sat. another cold front is due in.

  9. Brrrr! Makes me glad for my 25-degree-F walk this morning!

  10. wanted to see if I did the gravatar thing right. Other than misspell thaat word.

  11. John I guess you know that was me experimenting here, misspelling like crazy. I need coffee!

  12. Love the gravatar, Bonnie!

  13. Loonies of the world, untie! Or unite! Or whatever. When it’s 10 below, and one has cabin fever, one is entitled. Or entittled.

I have the cold/pneumonia thing. I’m a bit barmy myself.

  14. John, it was 10-below here, too, when I went outside just before noon, and I’ve been saying to everyone all day, “Isn’t it nice out?” and everyone has been agreeing! Well it’s a damn sight better than 30 and 40 below, feels practically balmy.

  15. Oh Kate, you have to feel it over here to understand why it scares us, it’s just not the same on these musty damp islands, in my experience anyway :)

When you put a little water in the Metatone (and thanks for the reminder John, I need a sup myself at the moment), it tastes like a super sugary red fruit juice, a really metalic tasting super sugary red…. :D

    Stalactites! hee!

    Metatone, sounds perfectly yucky!
I know about the arctic mass of frigid air over Europe, and I do feel a little guilty to be enjoying this 68°F we’ve had today here! Yes, a little over the top for this time of year, but temps are slated to plunge fast and furious in a few hour’s time… such dramatic changes, just not fit for human consumption, nor for all the creatures out there…

Just as long as you don’t wear one of those incredibly dorky woolly hats with the earflaps and the long trailing thingies.

That would be an image we really would not need!

  18. Nah. I got one of those dorky woolly hats with a bobble on top. Rather jolly, actually!

  19. We need a picture of that, John. You with a bobble. :)

  20. Think I’ll give the Metatone a miss. I had stuff like that poured into me as an anklebiter. If it doesn’t smell or taste nice there is no way I’ll give it a go.Thanks anyway for the info!
